Well, the last week has been an interesting and difficult one for me. This is probably a first for the club where this will be both the first and last message from the president, or VP acting as president, or whatever I am.
Anyway, unlike most messages this will not be a ra ra message.
As you know, our VP resigned his position from the club last Wednesday (10/19/11) and also resigned from the club. He also parked the DownTheRoadCorvettes.net and DownTheRoadCorvettes.com domains and has stated he will park the DownTheRoadCorvettes.org domain on this Thursday (10/27). He has also informed us of his desire for us to stop using "Down the Road Corvettes" in our club name.
A board meeting was held on Thursday (10/20) and the board exercised its authority in selecting an interim Vice President and they asked me if I would be willing and I accepted. Not quite knowing what I was getting myself into.
On Friday I reached out to our president to get together in person so we could discuss everything that was going on. We both agreed that was a good idea and to meet on Monday (10/24). However, on Saturday (10/22) he turned in his resignation so we did not have our meeting.
The board voted on several actions on Thursday to, among other things, protect the clubs assets (e.g., domains, club name, etc.). A subcommittee was formed which was charted to contact an attorney for guidance.
The subcommittee met with an attorney (Robert Wareham (also running for District Attorney for the 18th Judicial District)) on Monday (10/24). A full readout will be given at the meeting on Thursday. However, I will tell you that he indicated all the actions the board did were legal and proper. The attorney did not charge the club for this initial meeting.
This coming meeting is the last meeting of the year and also when we select the leadership for the next year.
I hope as many people as possible can make it to the meeting. It may be the most important meeting in the history of the club.
This is also the meeting when dues are due for next year. I know most people have not paid their dues and I cannot really blame them. Many people think the club is totally off course and are doubting if the course can be corrected. Some of you have already contacted me and indicated you are not planning to renew your membership. I understand your frustration but do hope you attend the meeting and reconsider.
The only thing I ask is to give the club a chance to correct its course. Remember all the camaraderie that we used to have. The club is so much more than the sum of its parts.
I look forward to when this difficult year is behind us and we get back to enjoying our Corvettes and more importantly enjoying each other. This club is worth saving.
I would like to make one request to everyone who attends the meeting. Please try to keep emotions out of the discussions. This will be hard because many of us care so deeply about this club.
Finally, as you know, I have invited Tim to the meeting so that he can share his thoughts around the domains and the "Down the Road Corvettes" club name. Face to face dialogs are usually much more produtive than emails. I talked to many people about this request and I received a huge variety in opinions. In the end, I followed my gut and it told me that I should ask Tim to the meeting because it was the right thing to do.
I want you to know that while everyone may not agree with my decisions over the last week I have been trying to do the right thing for the club. I also want to apologize to anyone that I may have offended or upset regarding my two responses to Richard's emails.
Finally, a portion of this meeting may be closed to non-members. I am still working on the agenda.
UPDATE (5:15 pm 10/25): Tim has replied to my invitation and said he would not be attending the meeting but would be willing to talk to me. I just got off the phone with him. We had a very cordial discussion and I think all the issues have been resolved. Details will be at the meeting.

We were excited to lead a mystery meal and enjoyed having 15 members join us that beautiful fall day. Lunch was in Elizabeth Colorado and a special visit was arranged at the Rambler Ranch. Terry has 115 acres with his personal collection of over 340 fully restored cars in 3 buildings and hundreds of other cars in his junk yard.. We enjoyed ice cream at his 1950's gas station too.
Thank you to everyone who came and made our day another fun filled one with DtRC members.
See the notes from the club meeting and the DtRC schedule for a list of what's coming up.
Dues: Are due at the meeting. $80 per couple and $50 per single if my memory is at all good. I need to get all the paperwork done and the club checks delivered to the RMD prior to Nov. 15th – so in order for me to do that – the deadline is going to be Nov. 2nd. Checks can be given to Gail, Cathy or myself. If you have questions let me know.
A few notes from the governors meeting:

Regional Executive – Pete U.
Regional Membership Direction – Ellouise M
Regional Competition Director – Walt J

I don’t want to publish last names – if anyone doesn’t know the person and wants more info email me and I’ll send you more info.
-- Several attendees mentioned that they use the NCCC discount at Sears and have saved some significant amounts. The details are on the NCCC website but I understood it to be that you called a special phone number to get the merchandise at a discount.
-- The Convention this year in the Chicago area was very well attended and everyone had a great time.
-- Convention next year (2012) is in Topeka Kansas – so one of the more convenient locations for those of us out west. Start date of the convention is June 23.
-- 2013 is out for vote for a go or no/go for Bowling Green. They will be trying a new format of a shorter convention, to allow travel to take place on the weekends, and people to not have to take so much time off of work. It sounds like the tentative plans have the convention itself be 5 days.
There is a Corvette Hallmark ornament out this year in celebration of the 100th anniversay of GM. It is a black and some sort of C6. Ellouise had one at the meeting for people to look at.

I attended the Torca Autocross at the CSP track on 10/22. As you recall, this was the event we decided not to hold and Torca was willing to take it on.
I was the only DtRC member who attended. The weather was really nice. At times a bit windy. The course Torca setup was really fast. They had 5 shicanes and nothing else.
Since this was my first autocross for the year I really felt rusty so I did not push things and the end result was slow times but a car that stayed on the track. This was more than several of the other drivers could say. There were several spinouts and few decided to try a shortcut through the weeds.
Torca also invited a Mustang club so there were about a half dozen metal cars, including a Datsun which also ended up in the weeds.
DCA did the timing using the Axware system (same type of system we have) and they had lots of problems. The race did not get over until after 6:00. There is a good chance we would have had the same type of problems because it turns out there is an issue with the type of USB duplicator they used and we may have used the same type if we had held the race (we didn't need a USB duplicator when using John's equipment). Fortunately, DCA was able to use their backup system to keep the race going.
Anyway, it is good information to know in case DtRC holds a race next year.
I would guess they had about 50 cars. All in all it was a good time and nice to connect with some of the racers in the other clubs. I am really happy that it worked out for Torca.
