From the Prez

Greetings,

Well – I am under the gun to get Nancy this letter in time for publication. May has been a crazy month and it has been all work related – no fun for the weary.

Looks like great weather for our autocross this weekend. By the time this comes out, the autocross will be old news but I am predicting a great event just like the other ones we have had.

As we all go about our daily business, we need to remember to slow down and take it easy for awhile – literally to "stop and smell the roses". Life is too short not to enjoy it. I say this as I am rushing thru this letter on my way to my next appointment. But, I drove my Vette to work today so after I am done it will be a nice relaxing drive home.

I hope all is well with everyone.

I look forward to seeing you all at the next meeting on the 24th.

Save the Wave!

Misc. ramblings from the Editor:

Hi Everyone,

I don't know what I can say here I haven't said elsewhere and I'm cutting it close to meeting time again.  Really - if anyone wants to submit their view of an event, or an article about Corvettes, or detailing, or a new product they've tried, or if they've gone someplace car related lately they want to let us all know about (whether they went in person, or visited vicariously via the web) - just send me the stuff.  The typical earliest deadline is the 15th of each month and I'll send out a newsletter a week or so before the real deadline.  I guess maybe we need another Bill S. mystery meal - that is always good for newsletter fodder, usually for a few months.

See you all Thursday.
Nancy B.

Minutes of Past Meeting

Down the Road Corvettes  Minutes of the April 2007 Meeting

PRESENTERS
Alex from Rocky Mountain Corvettes came to discuss his new website. He talked about a Father's Day Vette Car Show being put on by Rocky Mountain Corvettes. The event will be at Heritage Square and the proceeds will go to the Make A Wish Foundation.  Details at http://www.rmcorvette.com/ .  Alex mentioned a Gateway Museum Event that will be held at Grand Junction on August 19th. There will also be a Rocky Mountain Corvette Rally and Show held on Oct. 7th. More details on this later.

QUORUM
A quorum was present.

PREVIOUS MINUTES
The minutes from the previous meeting were approved. A correction needed to be made. We wish to include a few members that were not recognized in the previous minutes and who were top scorers in Rocky Mountain NCCC.
Men's
12th Place John H
13th Place Frank A

Ladies
12th Place Kitty D
14th Place Nancy A

TREASURER'S REPORT
The checkbook balanced. The Penny Board has generated $481 and Tim's Challenge has $604 from the Rally.

OLD BUSINESS
Many thanks to Nancy, Dave, Wanda, Tim and Pat for their time in making the routes for the Rally. A special thanks to all of the people who helped make the rally such a success. GREAT WORK!

NEW BUSINESS
Club thanked Alex for his support of Tim's Challenge. A jacket was raffled at the Rally with the money going to Tim's Challenge.  THANKS ALEX!
Tim discussed making Tim's Challenge into a non profit charity.  It would be a 501C3 corporation. Money donated would be tax deductible. We need a committee to start a board of directors and to establish by laws. It would cost $250 to start the process and this was approved by the club.

NCCC Convention
John M. discussed the bid for the National Convention 2009 that could be held in Colorado. He passed around a copy of the proposal that is to be presented at the next NCCC governor's meeting.  John made a pamphlet to be presented to the committee approving the bids. He put a great deal of time and effort into the present proposal.

MERCHANDISE COMMITTEE
Patches will be available with the new logo for $20 each.

GOVERNOR'S REPORT
Lots of events were in the newsletter.

SOCIAL COMMITTEE
The Committee is looking for someone to host a Mystery Meal in May.
June 22nd the committee has 30 tickets available for the play Best Little Whorehouse in Texas at the Arvada Center. The cost is $27 per person.

MEMBERSHIP COMMITTEE
No new members.

NATIONAL CORVETTE MUSEUM AMBASSADOR
C5/C6 Bash at the Museum on April 27th. The new 2008 Vet with 430 HP will be unveiled soon.  The museum is trying to expand and needs money to do this. Tim proposed that the club pledge to donate some amount per year for the next 5 years to the museum. After discussion a motion was made to donate $1,000 this year. After much discussion, this motion was approved.

The museum is sponsoring a raffle on June 6th for 3 Ron Fellows Z06 cars at $500 a ticket.

GM is holding a Performance Tour for 60 people or 30 couples. It will be a 3 day tour including a tour of the tech center, GM, historic museum tour and a trip to the Milford Proving Grounds. Cost is $4 to 5 grand.

AUTOCROSS DIRECTOR
There will be an autocross in Golden on May 20th. See Bill M. for details. Much help is needed to put on this event. Pre-registration should be mailed to Nancy K.

July 15th and August 26th - there will be autocrosses at Colorado National Speedway.

DRAG RACE DIRECTOR
Director was absent.

Meeting Adjourned.

Respectfully submitted by
Carol Perez
Secretary for DtRC

Upcoming Events
Remember a current schedule of NCCC events, access to flyers, event results and regional points standings can be found at www.rmrnccc.org .  As it is still early - remember, as clubs (ours included) firm up plans dates may change, events may be added, etc - so check back often.

Memorial Day Weekend

CSCC - AutoCrosses - State Patrol Track - Golden - May 27th

Just a week after the DtRC autocrosses at CSP, you have the chance to get out there again the following week.  CSCC is hosting 2 low speed autocrosses on the 27th - see their flyer for all the details.

Big Sky Meet - Missoula Montana  May 26 thru May 29

The Big Sky Meet (in Missoula this year hosted by the Hellgate Corvette Club) is region sanctioning their autocross and show-n-shine the year.  This is a first that I remember.  And if you go - these are on different days - and it is LOTS of travel points - for each day - probably more travel points than you would earn at the events.  You know where to find the flyer - the www.rmrnccc.org .  I haven't heard of anyone from the club that is going up - but if anyone is going - let the club know.  I believe mapquest claims it is about 895 miles from Denver to Missoula.

CWCC Autocrosses - Fruita - June 3rd

Most of you know the drill.  If you are interested and don't know the drill - give me a call or catch me at the meeting on Thursday.   This is the second set of races in Fruita this season.  3 races - 2 runs each.  Some of us are staying at Fruita Super 8.  Others are across the street at the Fruita Comfort Inn.  We got our room at Super 8 but I hear that they were out of non-smoking rooms when others tried - hence the Comfort Inn.

Vettes on Broadway - DCA Show - June 16th

This is a region-sanctioned - no entry fee people's choice show.  Flyer on the regional website - www.rmrnccc.org .  What I like about this one is that it is in a Kmart parking lot - so if it is hot or if I get bored (which doesn't take long or me at a car show) - I can go shopping in Kmart.  Dave doesn't necessarily appreciate that fact - but I do.

Father's Day Car Show - Heritage Square -

This event is sponsored by Rocky Mountain Corvette with all proceeds going to Make-A-Wish Foundation.  Pre-registration is $25 (returned by June 13th) and after the 13th is $30.  This is NOT an NCCC event, but it is a good cause.  You can get the registration form at www.rmcorvette.com

DtRC's next autocross - July 15th - Colorado National Speedway - Erie

DtRC & DCA are co-hosting 2 autocrosses this day.  The course will start out on the oval and then transition to the infield for more of a parking lot - lots of opportunities to acquaint yourself with a cone type finish.  Flyer coming soon - so mark your calendars.

Past Events

DtRC AutoCrosses -  Colorado State Patrol Track - Golden - May 20th

Wow - this was a big one.  I didn't count exactly yet - but we had about 65 drivers in the first race - and 55 in the second race.  For two races that's 120 drivers at 3 runs each = 360 runs.  Plus 3 parade laps each.  That's a lot of rubber left on the track (a lot of it ours - squeal squeal).  A huge thanks to Frank A. and John M. who not only did much of the planning, etc. but were up there before dawn setting up.  I think the club also had a record number of DtRC non-racers come out to assist.  Nancie A. did a great job at timing with Jayson helping on the radio.  Registration and computer entry went very smooth (thanks Nancy K. and Dave).  Tech.  Wow - cars started showing up en-masse at 7:30 (tech and reg technically started at 8:00).  Bill M. had his crack tech team on the job (thanks guys - you know who you are), got the cars teched and off to the grid directed by Tammy and Barb.  All the cars were teched by 8:45 and the drivers meeting happened on the dot of 9:15 as stated on the flyer.  And several of you came to ferry corner workers, post labels, work corners, etc.  Many of us left with sore feet (Dale & I especially) - but it was rewarding to have another successful event under the club's belt.  Really - a huge thank you to all.

The race.  I haven't had time to analyze the times - so won't go into that.  Here are some of the other tidbits.  Very early on one of the cars spun off the track and right over one of the timing lights.  The car won.  The timing light had metal pieces sticking out all over the place.  Luckily John & Dave took that into account when they ordered the system - and we had one extra set.  But this all happened on about run 5 of the day - and only 355 runs left to do with no more back up lights.  Made it through though.  Then there was the obstinate bicyclist.  Don't know the whole story - but they ended up having to stop the cars, send the pickup out to get him and take him to the entrance road.  At least 2-3 cars did donuts after crossing the finish line, as well as a couple doing donuts in the dirt off track a little further up the track (after which we had to send out brooms to do a little sweeping).  A herd of deer decided to come watch for a while - but stayed on their side of the fence (we said no re-runs if you hit a rabbit - but we'd give you one for a deer).   But as the day went on - things calmed down.  They guys managed to cool it a little and keep their cars on the track (it really goes much faster when they cooperate and stay on the asphalt) and we didn't have any more unwanted visitors.  The afternoon clouded up a lot, but the clouds waited until they got east of us to spit out a lot of lightening and as the last car did their last run - I felt a couple drops of rain.  I know the club has a weather good luck charm somewhere - just wish I knew which one of you it was.  We got a mild sprinkle during tear down - really nothing drastic - and didn't really hit rain until the way home.

May 12th - Torca - People's Choice Car Show, Charity Poker Draw Car Show - Longmont

As usual - this was a good show.  It's early enough in the year the weather isn't too hot.  They had well over 100 cars turn out.  DtRC had several club members there - it was good to see you guys.

Committee Updates

Social Committee
This years social committee is Deana D., Mary Kay K.  So please contact them if you have ideas for activities or are willing to lead a mystery (or non-mystery) meal, or activity.  Some of the things we have done in past years (other than the many driving and/or eating events) - bowling, indoor go-karts, IMAX, plays, comedy clubs, etc.  Mary Kay can assist you with finding a date that doesn't conflict with other club events, and give you suggestions on making plans for a large group.  If you are willing to organize something - please contact her.

Also - keep an eye on your email, often events pop up that can't wait until the next newsletter, like the Best Little Whorehouse in Texas play that Mary Kay has organized in June.  She had to know prior to this newsletter coming out how many were interested.  We can't make it but hope all of you that go have a great time - it's supposed to be a fun show.

Governor’s Report
By Nancy B.

NCCC Calendar changes since last month (the region website calendar has the latest and sometimes changes several times a month as venues and dates firm up):  Colorado Corvette Club Dealer Show cancelled due to a conflict with their dealer.  New entry - DtRC Autocrosses and Colorado National Speedway - August 26th.

Due to National Convention - the number of events in the region in June is very small.  So rest on up, get those obligatory "I have to visit family" visits done, and be ready to come out mid-July for DtRC's first ever race at Colorado National Speedway on July 15th.

Nothing else new to report to you all.  Most everyone was very good about signing the waiver at the autocross.  Just a reminder to workers - please go find it and sign it.  Often by the time you get there to help - it may be put away out of the wind, etc. and you may need to ask for it.

Drag Racing Report
