It is hard to believe that we are in June already. Arguably we are almost half way into the Corvette season. We have been very busy and I am sure things will be getting busier in the next few months.
A very special thanks to Mike and Jani for having us all over for dinner before our last meeting. I know we all appreciated their work and thoughtfulness. They beat going to any restaurant in town! Thanks you guys!
We had 14 members show up at the TORCA show. I don’t know how many cars were at the show but I believe about 50% of them were TORCA members. Our own Dave Chadwick won 1st place in the C4 category. Dave seemed surprised because the “Rose” C4s were there in force. For those that are not familiar with the “Rose” cars, they usually win it all. I personally was not surprised what so ever that he won. His C4 stands out in a crowd. Congratulations Dave! A good friend of ours, Roger Less, won best engine, also well deserved.
Our Fathers Day Super Corvette show is just around the corner. I have had the privilege to work with many of our members on this project. Too many members to mention names. We have visited the venue twice and gone over everything we can think of. If there is a glitch it will not be because of lack of effort. Flyers have been handed out all over the place. Mike M. put a great add in the Scoop and has been one of us that has handed flyers out at shows etc. Lets keep our efforts up and cross our fingers for a great turn out. I have received some goodies from Corvette Central and hopefully will have some from Ecklers, Mid America and West Coast Corvettes in the next few days.
I don’t know who all is going to Topeka for the convention. It sounds like a good time but Cathy and I were on the fence do to work load. When we found out that the only event we could enter (maybe) was the peoples choice car show we decided that perhaps the trip was out of our price range. (and bill needs new wheels------just saying)
Well, in the next couple of weeks Down the Road Corvettes will don a new image. Our club will be second to no one in appearance. We will have our new jackets and shirts. I for one really appreciate Emich for stepping up for us on the jackets and trophies for our show.
Next project-----------Auto Cross. We probably have the “premier” auto cross members in the Corvette arena. Dave Burritt and John Maxwell always do an outstanding job with few problems. I would hope a great turn out to help them. I have already talked to many members that are looking forward to this event and will do anything Dave and John ask. I understand that some past “auto cross gurus” will be helping also.
See you all at the show.
Save the Wave.
Each month we will add information about our members. Here are a few notes from a recent interview with new members Sherman and Carrie Ball.
Carrie is very excited to own her first Corvette which is a 1995, 6 speed man car with 215,000 miles. As Carrie said, "Strong enough for a man but made for a woman". Wow! To look at the car you would never know it has that many miles. Obviously another well cared for Vette and a garage baby.
They are proud parents of 17 year old Andrew. Someday soon they will need to bring him to a club event or meeting so we can all meet him.
They own "On the Ball Automotive" on Broadway, a mechanic shop for all makes and models. Sherman is there full time while Carrie is graduating June 4th and is working as a Vet Technician.
Pets, pets, pets.... imagine that with Carrie studying to be a vet tech. Max and Bella Grace are Basset Hounds, Sophie-the Blue Tongued Skink Lizzard, Charlie-a 4 ft Ball Python Snake (the coolest cat in the neighborhood) and he likes to massage her neck.
They enjoy the outdoors with riding ATV's and camping. Sherman also has a Kawasaki Mean Streak he likes to ride.
Winning the lottery would give them enough acreage for all the current critters plus exotic chickens, pigmy pigs, potbelly pigs and more. Sherman could also build a huge play barn for all of his big boy toys plus metal and wood working tools.
Mike and I really enjoyed having the club over for a Santa Maria BBQ at our house prior to this month's meeting. We were a little disappointed that more of the house didn't get painted as planned.
We are looking forward to the Father's Day Car Show at Heritage Square. I didn't realize how many rides are out there for kids which looks like alot of fun. I would like to thank everyone for their donations
on raffle items plus encourage each of you to see about getting more for the show. A donation letter is available and I can email to you.
Let's get a few more mystery meals planned. I'm sure everyone has an idea for a great drive and eating spot.

Minutes from May 24, 2012
Meeting was held at Emich Chevrolet in Lakewood.
Jim Lockard, WWIN, visited our club tonight to discuss the upcoming Father's Day Car Show. He will have 5 judges that are vets and tables selling product (shirts, wristbands, and more). He said there is a possibility of a Bronco visiting the show and Fox 31 may broadcast live that day too. He told the story about Nick Ochnowski who will be attending as a judge. Our club shared a completed trophy which he really liked and wanted the image emailed to him so he can share with others.
