Well here it is, July 2012 already! I don’t need to tell anyone how busy we all have been.
Let me start with the car show at Heritage square. Many members gave their time and greatest effort to make sure this show stood out as one of the best. We met at the site several times and went through “dress rehearsals” many more times. While the show wasn’t perfect, it was darn close and we learned what perhaps we can do to make it better and what not to do.
As I said in an earlier email, my hat is off to Jeri who won the 50/50. I think the pot was around $350.00. Without being ask, she donated all the winnings to WWIP. Now that shows character. I know many members that donated selflessly to make the show a success and I want each of you to know that it was noticed and will not be forgotten. When you get a group of people that go to this amount of work for no reason or reward other than the satisfaction of doing a good job, you have a winning group.
I believe we counted 69 cars being shown, this number does include our club cars but not any that “stopped by”. If we decide as a club that this is something we want to do next year I feel very comfortable in expecting more than double that amount. We received a few letters from people that attended the show, all extremely positive. I have been to a few shows lately where people have come up to me unsolicited, singing our praise. “Best show I’ve ever been to,” “Your club works together better than any I have seen” , “Most organized show we have attended at Heritage” just a few comments I have heard.
A special thanks to Emich for great trophies, to Daddy Don for making the Denver police car available, to Dave Cooper who (under great pressure) got a $500.00 gift card from Discount Tires, to Mike L. for an OUTSTANDING job with the 50/50, and to everyone that donated goods and time for this show. There are far too many to list them all.
We had a pretty good turnout for the toy run even with HOT temps. We had a good time then left for breakfast. That evening some of us went to Purifoy for their cars under the stars. There we quite a few cars there and we saw some old friends. All in all it was a very successful and fun filled day.
Lots of things are coming our way! Mark your calendars. Dave Cooper hosting a mystery meal the end of this month. Dave Burritt is working on the auto X in August. Mike and Mary are hosting a mystery meal in August and some of us ask Jani to organize a run to an event the end of August.
Several of us took a run over Trailridge road a couple of weeks ago. What a great drive. This one was to reward ourselves for the Heritage show. We took our time and stopped for (late lunch) in Grand Lake.
Unfortunately, we did have a couple of members that ran into bad luck at the NCCC convention in Topeka. Mike M and Daddy Don had their cars broken in to at the Hotel. I don’t know all the details but it was not a good experience for them I’m sure.
We had a “spur of the moment” event today, Saturday the 7th to an “all American car show” in Loveland. It was a great show with all types of American made cars. There were a bunch of cars there and Mike and Mary still won a trophy. We’re not talking a few cars with 2 or 3 in each class, there were a whole lot of cars to compete with. Congrats to Mike and Mary.
I’m sure I left something out but we have had so much going on it is hard to keep track.
See you all at the July meeting if not before.
DtRC would like to welcome Mike Lindenberger and Jerri Lovato to our club. We look forward to many great moments together.
Mike Lindenberger recently joined DtRC and found out about our club through a google search. He was searching for a summer criuser, took his first Corvette ever owned for that test drive and well the rest is history. He was born and raised in Corry, Pennsylvania where he joined the Air Force. He has an Associates Degree in Aviation Maintenance Technology, Associates in Education and Training plus a Bachelors Degree in Marketing. He retired over 2 years ago from the Air Force and besides driving his Corvette he also enjoys snowboarding, jogging, lifting weights and the outdoors. He is currently working for the railroad BNSF. If he won the lottery tomorrow he would buy DtRC a ZR1 for the club. Each month the club could vote on something to customize on the car. The members could also take the ZR1 home and return to the next event. (Maybe we should start buying him lottery tickets each month?) He has no children, no pets, single and dating Jerri Lovato.
Jerri Lovato joined the club with Mike Lindenberger and enjoys riding with him in his Corvette. She has an Aunt and Uncle that owned a 65 Corvette when she was a kid and has always liked the nice sleek look. She keeps busy with 2 sons, a daughter and works for Omni Hotels in Broomfield.. Darian,18, just graduated high school and is going to Metro in the Fall. Kianna,14, will be a Freshman at South and loves to play soccer. Daniel, 12, will be a 6th grader at Merrill Middle School and plays baseball. They have a dog, Kitty, and a cat, Rasin. She loves to dance, go to professional sporting events, watch her kids play various sports, walking and go to the mountains for a nice drive, camping and fishing. Oh yeah, loves to hang out with friends and the best guy ever, Mike (no not you, Mike Lindenberger). Here are her plans if she won the lottery tomorrow - She would pay off her bills, buy a house, pay off her parent's house, buy a stingray, and take a family vacation then another vacation with that special guy ;). "
I have really enjoyed getting to know everyone in the club. Everyone is so nice! I love going to the various events and especially enjoyed the Father's Day event. Working with everyone was fun. Thanks for welcoming Mike and I into the club with such open arms.", Jerri.
Summer is here with weekends packed - Corvette shows, rallyes, autocross and other events. Congratulations to all the DtRC members that have recently won trophies. Be sure to post your photos on our facebook page to share with everyone.
Upcoming events and a calendar have been included in each newsletter. Just let me know if you have anything else to add to our list of ideas.
DtRC has always enjoyed an out of town trip to Gunnison in August for the past few years. I would like to suggest the Pagosa Springs Car Show and Rallye - August 24 - 26. Both are sanctioned events. I will start looking at hotel rates and let you know more about the trip at our July meeting.
Mike Lindenberger has suggested we sell Autcross Shirts this year. We could purchase for $5 each and sell for $10-$15. We are working on a design to share with everyone at the July meeting.
Our club jackets and shirts are really nice. Thank you to everyone who worked on getting these out to all of us.
Here are just a few of the upcoming events. Let us know if you have one to add.
