Here it is, April 2013. Where has the time gone. It seems just like yesterday that Cathy and I ran the April Fools rally before joining Down the Road Corvettes in April 2001. We were so proud! We won our first Horses ass trophy, the first of many. We keep them proudly on a special shelf in the shed just behind the lawn fertilizer. This years’ rally was no exception. Once again DtRC put on a great event. Thanks to all those that helped make this thing a success. I had many participants tell me they had a great time. Did anyone notice the turn out from Looking Glass? There was a time when you very seldom saw any Looking Glass members at any event. They are great people and I am thrilled to see them enjoy our functions.
Many participants said they were looking forward to our Fathers’ day show. I have the flyer done and will make copies. I would encourage everyone take a few flyers and hand them out at any event they may attend before Fathers’ day. This year it appears that there are no competing events going on that weekend so our turnout will probably be exceptional. We are also sanctioning the show year. I hope to see more Colorado springs cars this year. I don’t remember seeing many TORCA members last year either. Hopefully we will see more of them also. All the surrounding clubs have several great members that I always look forward to seeing. Last year CCC even donated door prizes for us. Speaking of door prizes, kind of keep your eyes open for someone that you see that may be interested in donating. I am going to “hit up” a few of my business vendors for some goodies. Mike D and Lewis are chairing the event this year and I am sure they will welcome all the help they can get.
As always I look forward to seeing you all at the meeting.
THE FINAL C6
On Thursday, at 8:04 a.m. February 28, 2013, the last 2013 Corvette rolled off the line at the Bowling Green Assembly Plant. A total of 215,100 C6 generation Corvettes were made since production began in 2005. The last C6, an exclusive 427 Convertible Collector Edition outfitted with the 60th Anniversary design package, will join other historic GM vehicles at the GM Heritage Center in Warren, MI.
The celebration was short lived as less than 30 minutes after the last C6 was built, workers began remodeling the plant to prepare for the launch of the all-new C7 Stingray. The task of tearing down and re-tooling will require about four weeks. Assembly plant turn-arounds usually require months, but the workers are expected by March 25th to begin learning the entirely new process required to build the Stingray.
The Assembly Plant, which hosts up to 50,000 visitors each year, is temporarily closed to the public, but tours are expected to resume in late fall. The museum has, however, arranged an exclusive tour on June 27th during the 60th Anniversary Birthday event. I wish all of you were accompanying me as one of the 250 enthusiasts taking this special tour. I’m anticipating it will be even more fun than previous tours I’ve taken!
